Saturday 4 June
- St Augustine's Priory
I met Sarah whilst doing a wedding fair
at St Augustine's Priory and was so excited when she and Barrie
asked me to photograph their wedding there. Never one to shy
away from gothic church like features and plenty of candles
it's perfect in that respect, although the ceremony room is
on the first floor so you do have to be prepared for some
Sarah wasn't bothered about the whole
'getting ready' photographs which meant I could be at the
venue with the groomsmen, capturing the guests arriving.
Sarah was in fact running slightly behind
schedule so when I heard an accelerating car screech to a
halt I knew she'd arrived! Whilst the main colour-scheme of
the day was red, white and blue she'd chosen to have the bridesmaids
in pink and even made all the bouquets herself.
On making it to the top of the stairs,
the couple's young son decided he needed to see mummy right
away and ran down the aisle towards her. The ceremony itself
was lovely and I must say that Sarah and Barrie took on my
comments about not just having a quick 'peck' for a kiss ...
nice work guys as it meant I got loads of different shots!
The couple had supplied both confetti
and bubbles for their exit into the grounds. Guests were also
treated to a range of 'antipasti' treats rather than the traditional
Now this was a first for me ... a birds
of prey demonstration to keep everyone entertained and even
educated. A range of birds including owls and eagles were
flown from gauntlet to posts and anyone who wanted a go could
get involved. I particularly liked the vulture who took a
real liking to confetti and quite happily munched through
anything he could find.
After the wedding breakfast (held in
the marquee attached to the main building) I was able to sneak
the couple off for a walk around the grounds. I loved the
secret gardens ... and Sarah and Barrie were even up for clambering
over rocks so that I could get the shots I'd pictured in my
I liked that they included Ethan in their
first dance, in fact he was still partying when I left for
home! Sarah and Barrie are now expecting baby number 2 and
I wish them all the best with their expanding family.
