Saturday 1 November
- Shenley Cricket Centre
I know how much fun Michelle and Wayne
are so their wedding was always going to be a laugh. I photographed
for her sister a couple of years ago so it was like meeting
up with old friends. I started the day with the girls getting
ready at the Holiday Inn Elstree.
A short drive down some country lanes,
the boys were at Shenley Cricket Centre - looking very smart
with their suits, braces, bow ties and personalised Converse
Michelle asked that all the guests stayed
seated whilst she entered - whilst this is unsual it made
sure that everyone could see. I loved the handshake between
dad and Wayne as they got to the front and the whole ceremony
was full of laughter. Mainly because Wayne fluffed some of
his words, then one of the bestman claimed to have lost the
ring and then it was a struggle to get it to fit!
I don't think any of us expected that
the weather would be so warm and sunny in November. As such
the drinks reception was held outside and I took advantage
with the formal group photos as the trees were also still
holding their leaves.
As the sun was started to dip, there
was still enough light for the bride and groom to spend some
time alone - just with me and videographer Jonathan playing
gooseberry! Thankfully Michelle had thought ahead and got
a furry wrap to keep her warm.
At Shenley they have different marquees
for summer and winter. The winter option is attached to the
main building so there's no need to go outside. Michelle had
decorated everything in fushia and teal as per the wedding
colourscheme with floating cala lillies and candles in tall
Their cake was unlike anything I've seen
before with one layer using Dolly Mixtures as decoration.
However my favourite element of the whole day has to be the
gingerbread man cake topper depicting Wayne.
The evening began with Michelle and Wayne
performing a medley of dance styles and moves - their jive
was great - and then became a huge party complete with live
band and fish and chip supper.
