Friday 31 July -
It was a weekend of Hitchin weddings
at the end of July which started with Jenny and Dan's big
day at Hitchin Priory. Whilst I've photographed there several
times before this was the first time I'd done a ceremony in
the music room and reception in the marquee. However the couple
were lucky to have the whole venue to themselves so we could
explore the building and grounds for photos.
I got a sneaky text from the groom to
say that he was on his way so that I could dash outside for
his arrival. Dan's dad had lent drive him his Mustang as transport
- mind you he probably regretted that decision after hearing
how quickly Dan had taken one of the speed bumps on site!
The Music Room is on the top floor of
the building so it's important to note that all guests, and
the bride, have to get up a couple flights of stairs. Whilst
the Hertfordshire registrars are happy for photography during
the ceremony this particular one was very strict about what
I was allowed to do, actually she was quite a scary lady,
so I simply agreed to everything she said!
The guests seemed to partcularly enjoy
throwing confetti (mainly straight at Dan's face) as the couple
exited from the restaurant doorway. On this occasion the paper
did actually go over them... rather than mainly over me as
I walk backwards trying not to trip over.
After leaving everyone to mingle, chat
and sample drinks and canapes, a few formal shots were taken
on the steps. Well I say formal ... there was such a good
atmosphere and the bridal party were up for some fun including
some 'vogue' poses'.
Given it's location just on the outskirts
of the town centre, you'd never think that the grounds are
so extensive. You feel like you're in a country park and miles
from anywhere. I hope that Jenny and Dan enjoyed their bit
of time to themselves as we took a stroll for some photos.
With the marquee and food ready for service
it was time to eat. Each of the guests received a cocktail
shot as a favour and much comparing of flavours was to be
had. The cake toppers were replicas of Jenny and Dan - so
everyone should now be able to work out what Dan does for
a job. I could include loads of photos from the speeches -
particularly the embarassing photo slideshow that Dan's brother
gave - but the sweetest moment was when the flowergirl was
given an extra special 'little' present!
The evening got underway in the usual
way with cutting of the cake and first dance and then the
party really started. James from Disco-Nyts did a great job
with the music and lights and if it hadn't been for me photographing
the next day I would have loved to stay and boogie. I've heard
tales of the bride and groom staying up til nearly dawn -
nice one guys!
