Saturday 7 May -
Chelsea Registry Office and BlueBird Restaurant
Before jetting off for their Italy wedding,
Hannah and Andrew got married at the iconic Chelsea registry
office on Kings Road. Having photographed for several members
of the bride's family I was delighted to be asked to come
along and capture the UK leg of the celebrations.
As this venue runs many weddings every
day I was surprised at just how relaxed the staff were ...
maybe too much as Hannah was left waiting in a reception area
not knowing what was happening! Mind you, we made good use
of the time catching up and taking a few photos before she
was called for her meeting with the registrars.
Sometimes the smallest ceremonies are
the best as everyone feels so involved. Hannah and Andrew's
was so full of laughter - especially when it came to getting
the rings on! I also liked that the registrar insisted on
the couple kissing twice (just in case I hadn't managed to
snap it first go).
It's a real tradition at this venue for
confetti to be thrown on the steps, you can even buy it from
their office. Unfortunately most people had forgotten so my
emergency supplies came into effect. The pigeons however were
particularly keen on the rice thrown at a previous couple...
that I don't recommend ... it hurts!
It was such a lovely afternoon that most
of the party chose to walk down Kings Road to the Bluebird
Restaurant where drinks and a private meal were served. I
guess the locals are so used to seeing girls in wedding dresses
as not a single person offered their congratulations. The
walk however was great fun and well done to Hannah for speeding
along, even in her high heels. I can't wait to see photos
from their Italy wedding.
