Emma & Olly - The Milling Barn

Emma and Olly

I arrived at the Milling Barn on the morning of Emma and Olly's wedding, fully expecting the venue to say we'd be having the ceremony indoors. To be fair it was all set up ready to go, but the staff were insistent that the rain would hold off and it wasn't too muddy down in the woodland. That's when I got really excited as I knew that an outdoor wedding was what Emma had wanted all along.

The boys were on hand to show guests where to go, with the majority chosing to walk across the fields. The ceremony was set up in a clearing amongst the trees with jam jars, tealights and wicker hearts strung from the branches.

Emma was ready in plenty of time so I was able to take her into the gardens for a few photos before her registrars meeting and a short drive to the woods with dad. Just so you know ... I walked / ran it ... in order to get there before her!

Walking through the trees the bridesmaids and Emma made their way down the grass aisle. I get a lot of people ask why the couple have to stand in / under a pagoda or similar but that's because in the UK it is the structure or building that is licenced. So you have to say your vows in it otherwise you're not legally married!

Straight after the ceremony there was more than enough confetti handed out to everyone. I fact I think that Olly ended up taking the brunt of the bucket full in his face. No small task given how tall he is! After sending all the guests back to the barn for drinks on the terrace I got to spend some time with couple in the woods and around the grounds.

I rounded everyone up for a big group shot just before allowing them to go into dinner. The tables for the wedding breakfast were interestingly square and white washed with centrepieces of jars of flowers.

After dinner there was more opportunity for drinks outside ... for a bit ... then the rain started so everyone headed for cover. The couple had set up a big sweet table and a DIY photobooth on the upper level which kept people amused before the dancing started and the party got going.
